APA Olivette Is Beyond Capacity

At the APA, we are known for our ability to change the lives of pets, creating happy endings for thousands, each and every year. To accomplish this, we rely on help from our community, however, that need is especially great today.

Shelters across the country are experiencing unprecedented levels of homeless pets and the St. Louis region is not immune. According to Petfinder, the current 7-day average of pets available for adoption across the country is topping 307k. One year ago, that average was 240k. Like so many other shelters, APA Olivette is beyond capacity, and we urgently need your help. We are completely out of space for big dogs, yet they continue to actively flow through our doors. There were 400 pets brought into APA Olivette this month alone. At the APA, we do everything we can to find safe placement for every adoptable pet, but with the number of animals in need of help, this is getting more and more difficult. We need your help.

We need YOU to foster or adopt today. ALL ADOPTION FEES WILL BE WAIVED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE at APA Olivette on all dogs 40 lbs. or more. The adoption process remains the same in order to ensure pets go to safe, loving homes. Thanks to our supportive friends at Purina, we will also be providing a variety of pet supplies and food coupons to each adopter at Olivette in order to help pets get settled into their new homes.

If you can’t adopt, please consider fostering. We have staff prepared to quickly help you become a foster – no experience required. All foster supplies will be provided.

We also have short-term options that make a big difference, such as taking a pet on a doggie date for a few hours, or participating in our weekly pack walks. These activities provide critical enrichment that help maintain a dog’s mental health while they are in the shelter.

50 dogs need to leave TODAY. To SAVE A LIFE, please come to our Olivette location (10521 Baur Blvd.) during normal business hours. We will be keeping everyone updated regarding our capacity and need because we simply cannot help the animals who need us without your support.

Please help us continue to create the happy endings these pets deserve. You make the difference.
