Take Home a Lifetime of Love and Happiness

Considering adoption? Good choice! Careful placement of pets is one of our primary missions. Check out the animals currently available for adoption!

We update our listings hourly throughout the day. If you'd like to make sure a certain dog or cat is still here, you may call us with the animal's name and ID number. However, we do not confirm adoptions or "hold" pets by phone.

The Adoption Process

When you come into our shelter, you’ll find 100 to 150 dogs and cats waiting to find a new home. Our adoption counselors will help find the right pet for you. We comply with all county and municipal regulations regarding pet ownership. We will not knowingly place a pet in violation of any ordinance restricting breeds or number of animals in a household. For more information, please contact the APA’s adoption desk at 314.645.4610 ext. 113.

The fees we ask for each adoption cover only a portion of the costs to treat and care for a single animal – roughly $400 per dog or cat. That’s why “Your Cost” is a bare minimum. Please consider adding a gift of at least $25 or more to the base fee.

We provide the following for each adopted pet:

  • Spay/neuter surgery
  • Microchip identification
  • Preliminary vaccinations and worming
  • Heartworm test and preventative for dogs
  • Feline leukemia test for cats
  • Advantage Multi® flea and heartworm preventative
  • Two-week wellness coverage
  • Collar and leash

We have discounted rates for senior citizens (60 and over) who adopt and special discounts when you adopt an older pet.
