Shop Local. Support Local.
This year has been quite the year indeed. Despite the obvious challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, we continued helping pets in need, finding homes for several thousand pets – 2,980 (and counting!) to be exact. We also helped keep people and pets together, distributing over 10,000 lbs. of pet food to families who are struggling, and launched a crisis housing support program to help pets whose families are experiencing housing loss due to eviction or foreclosure. We have continued to spay/neuter pets, complete families through adoption, provide vaccines and wellness exams to pets across our community, and SO much more.
And you know what? We didn’t do it alone. It is true that our team of employees is pretty extraordinary, however, there is an incredible team of volunteers and supporters who help make the magic happen. They walk dogs, cuddle with cats (when the cats let them), wash dishes, tackle piles upon piles of laundry, bathe dogs, and open their homes to foster the pets who need special care before adoption. These people are AMAZING. And when we say we couldn’t do this work without them it is absolutely true.
We know these kind-hearted, animal-loving people, particularly those who own small, local businesses, have experienced challenges of their own over the past several months, but their support for us has never wavered. If we have needed something, they were there. These are our neighbors and our friends. They are the people we call when an extra hand is needed. They love the community, and they love the APA. Like us, our volunteers and supporters understand the critical importance of local support. It makes such a difference.
So, we wanted to find a way to give back just a small piece of the incredible support they show for us. That is why, on this Small-Business Saturday, we are asking you to consider shopping local at these amazing businesses who support the APA and the animals we care for. Not only do these businesses love and support the APA, but they also offer some really cool goods and services that make great gifts for the favorite people (and pets!) in your life. So, when your loved one opens that gift during the holidays, you (and they) can get a warm, fuzzy feeling knowing that not only did you give (and get) the most awesome gift ever, but you also indirectly supported the APA. How cool is that?
