Press Release: National Nonprofit Petco Love Invests in APA Adoption Center to Save and Improve the Lives of Pets in St. Louis

$25,000 grant will be celebrated at local Petco event on

June 21, 2022

SAINT LOUIS, MO (June 16, 2022) The Animal Protective Association (APA) of Missouri is set to receive a $25,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petco Love during a special celebration at the Brentwood Petco located at 8404 Eager Road on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 11 a.m.in support of their lifesaving work for animals in St. Louis, Missouri.

Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested $330 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations — like ours — across North America, with 6.5 million pets adopted and counting.

“Our investment in the APA Adoption Center is part of more than $15M in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We recently celebrated the one-year launch anniversary of Petco Love Lost, a national lost and found database that uses pet facial recognition technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”

“This generous investment by Petco Love in our Transport Program allows us to continue our life-saving work in St. Louis and beyond. Nearly half of the pets that find loving families through the APA Adoption Center were transferred from smaller, rural shelters outside of the metro area where adopter foot traffic doesn’t match the number of pets needing homes. Additionally, we have the capacity to provide treatment and care for special cases including heartworm positive pets or expecting dog moms. Petco Love’s support of the APA is helping save lives by connecting pets who need a second chance with people in our community looking to add a furry family member,” said Sarah Javier, President and CEO of the APA Adoption Center.

The Animal Protective Association of Missouri (APA) is an innovative and progressive leader in animal welfare, dedicated to bringing people and pets together, advancing humane education, and creating programs beneficial to the human-animal bond. With a 100-year history in the St. Louis region, the APA helps over 4,000 pets find safe loving homes each year. Thousands more are helped through wellness, outreach, and supportive programs that keep pets healthy and with the people who love them.
