Exemption Status:   Full-time, exempt   

Compensation: $43,000/year  

SUMMARY: The HR Assistant plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive administrative support to the Human Resources department. This position is responsible for managing various HR activities, coordinating employee engagement initiatives, and ensuring the smooth execution of pre-employment processes and documentation. The HR Coordinator should possess strong technical skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, HRIS and recruiting systems. The ideal candidate will be comfortable interacting with individuals at all levels of the organization, including senior leadership. This position will have a flexible work environment with the option to work remotely or in the office, as the schedule allows.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Post job vacancies across multiple platforms  
  • Conduct initial phone screenings on all qualified candidates 
  • Coordinate onsite interviews with candidates and hiring managers 
  • Onboard all new employees 
  • Responsible for new hire employment verifications 
  • Maintain, organize and audit physical and electronic personnel files  
  • Attend career fairs and networking events to promote available positions at the APA  
  • Assist with various human resources related projects  
  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT  

  • Work performed in an office setting within an animal shelter  
  • Occasional lifting/moving/carrying of items; must be able to lift/carry up to 25 pounds  
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time when needed  

  

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • College degree preferred  
  • 2 years of relevant experience  
  • Not for profit experience preferred 
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills as well as excellent phone etiquette  
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills  
  • Must have strong organization skills and a proven ability to handle multiple tasks in a busy environment  
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects, and attention to detail  
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to use Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and quickly learn other software, including database systems  
  • Available to work flexible scheduling, including some evenings and weekends, as needed
