Hike With An APA Hound
Are you ready to get out in nature, join the company of a shelter dog and do something that benefits the community? The CEO of APA wants to introduce you to another new program at APA. Once a month until the weather gets too hot (we will start back up in the fall), we invite you to hike with an APA hound. Here are the two upcoming hikes:
- Friday, April 28, we will meet at APA Olivette at 8:30am. You will take your shelter dog with you, and we will caravan to the Bootlegger’s Run Trail in Creve Coeur Park, about a 14-minute drive. You can get directions here. The hike will be a 4.7-mile loop, and we should finish around 11:30am to head back to APA Olivette. (THIS TIME SLOT AND DATE IS NOW FULL.)
- Friday, May 26, we will meet at APA Brentwood at 8:30am. You will take a shelter dog and caravan to Castlewood State Park. We will hike the River Scene Trail loop, a 3.1-mile loop. We should finish around 10:30am to head back to APA Brentwood.

Why take dogs out of the shelter?
Taking a shelter dog out on a hike will help them by reducing boredom, releasing energy, enriching them with various smells, meeting new people and dogs and getting one-on-one time with a human.
Want to help a dog to learn life-saving skills, get some time out of the shelter and make a difference for a furry friend? Then sign up below! We are currently limiting this opportunity to 10-15 people per hike. The dogs will be pre-selected and matched with handlers based on experience level.
