Considering adoption? What a wonderful choice you’re making! Careful placement of pets into responsible homes is one of the APA’s primary and most rewarding missions. Every day, we receive strays and pets from owners who are no longer able to care for them and make every effort to give them a second chance at finding a permanent loving home.
The normal adoption fee for all cats and dogs is $120. *This fee covers only a portion of our costs to treat and care for the animals. We provide the following for each adopted pet:
- Spay/neuter surgery
- Microchip identification
- Preliminary vaccinations and worming
- Heartworm test and preventative for dogs
- Feline leukemia test for cats
- Frontline® flea and tick preventative
- Two-week limited health guarantee
- Collar and leash

We ask everyone who adopts from us to consider adding a gift of $25 or more to the base fee to help us cover these costs.
We have discounted rates for senior citizens (60 & over) who adopt and special discounts when you adopt an older pet.
When you come into our shelter, you’ll find 100 to 150 dogs and cats waiting to find a new home. Our adoption counselors will assist you in completing our basic questionnaire and screening to determine that the animal you select is the right one for you. The APA has additional and specific adoption requirements for dogs of the bully breed. Although we do not agree with legislation banning specific breeds, we comply with all county and municipal regulations regarding pet ownership. We will not knowingly place a pet in violation of any ordinance restricting breeds or number of animals in a household.

We update these listings hourly throughout the day. If you’d like to make sure a certain dog or cat is still here, you may call us with the animal’s name and its ID number. However, we do not confirm adoptions or “hold” pets by phone.
